Chicken Lethargic

Lethargy is a broad warning sign. The useful question is what else changed: appetite, breathing, posture, movement, droppings, heat exposure, or flock behavior.

When to get help

Get help quickly if lethargy comes with breathing trouble, inability to stand, bleeding, rapid decline, or multiple sick birds.

What to observe

Whether the bird stands normally, moves away when approached, eats, drinks, breathes comfortably, and reacts to the flock.

Context clues

Heat, bullying, injury, molt, egg-laying trouble, predator stress, and illness can all show up as low energy.

Pattern matters

A bird that perks up after shade and water is different from one that keeps declining.
