Vacation Chicken Care Sheet
A good vacation plan makes the flock boring for the caretaker: clear chores, clear warning signs, and no guessing about latches, water, or weather.
Keep chores simple
Write exactly what to do with water, feed, eggs, locks, lights, and weather. Do not assume the caretaker knows your normal routine.
Show the failure points
Point out the latch that sticks, the waterer that empties fastest, and the spot where feed spills.
Leave emergency rules
Give a contact and clear instructions for heat, cold, injury, missing birds, or predator signs.
What to leave
- Feed amount and location.
- Water refill and cleaning instructions.
- Egg collection location.
- Door and latch routine.
- Weather instructions.
- Emergency contact and photos of the normal setup.
